There is a somewhat unusual decoration on this fountain pen: the mermaid Amabie. In contrast to our usual mermaids, this one looks very strange. She has long hair, a beak-like mouth, is covered in scales and has three legs! According to legend, an official of the Japanese imperial court observed the sea as it boiled. After several days, the creature Amabie emerged from the sea and prophesied to the official a good harvest for the country in the next six years. But also: "When a disease spreads, draw a picture of me and show it to those who become sick and are healed."
During Covid19, many manga artists took up this motif and the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare also printed the Amabie on its posters. And now it is also on the Plaisir fountain pens as a mascot for the fight against the epidemic.
The fountain pen is made of a metal housing with an F nib. The clip takes up the color of the shaft again and even the nib is in the matching color.
